“Demystifying Thyroid Eye Disease” and “Ocular Surface Role in FLACS and Advanced Technology IOL’s” - Manchester, TN
Event on 2017-10-17 07:30:00
Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) is the most common extra-thyroid presentation of Grave's disease. Given the litany of ocular and orbital manifestations of TED, early detection and management are essential. Dr. T. Amerson Pegram will review the most common presenting symptoms and sequelae of TED and discuss current medical and surgical treatment options. With the evolution of cataract surgery as a refractive procedure and the advent of advanced technology IOLs, the health of the ocular surface has risen in importance for patient selection and satisfactory surgical outcomes. The primary care optometric physician is well-positioned to diagnose and treat sub-clinical ocular surface problems prior to initiating a cataract surgery consult. By doing so, the physician will optimize the surgical outcomes for his/her patients. Dr. Robin Brady will discuss ocular surface abnormalities, their impact on surgical outcomes, and first and second-line therapies.
