"When we can all look at one another, and see ourselves, and the good that I want for myself I want for you also, regardless of age, gender, social status, culture, race or religion. Together we can rise up out of any situation, and create the city, we desire and deserve to live in." said founder Sky Covington."

“HUG Detroit Day” was founded in 2013 by Nicole Freeman, CEO of Nicole Freeman Management and co-founded by Sheila Everette-Hale, CEO of LEEP (Linking Everyday EXTRAORDINARY People) and Everette’s Natural Beauty School, Inc.. This year HUG Detroit Day will use entertainment as a means to inform and educate people on the advantages of starting and maintaining a healthy diet and hugging relationships, as well as providing a creative way to promote local artists and businesses.

The 2017 HUG Detroit Day mission was to create a day that provides an excellent opportunity for people from different backgrounds to connect and network with each other, by highlighting an appreciation for diversity, by promoting a greater respect and awareness of diversity, and by addressing issues of acceptance, peace, love and unity, that, in turn, will help serve as a continued step toward sustaining a lasting change across our city and community. Our goal is to the bring a variety of service providers for the people in Metro Detroit, including education, natural health & wellness, community organizations, farmers, retailers, business supporters, etc. in an atmosphere of love, fun, entertainment and plenty of HUGS.
