Tips To Buy The Right Exercise Bike
One of the best ways to get fit in the comfort of your own home is to workout on an exercise bike. You can get a great aerobic workout in around 30 minutes which is great for weight loss and general fitness. You never need to worry about what the weather is doing outside. You will never have an excuse not to workout again!
You need to consider what sort of exercise bike you want. There are two main types. The upright and the recumbent exercise bike. If you are looking for a bike that is like your road bike you need to upright exercise bike. If you have any sort of problems with your back and you want a more comfortable position, you will need the recumbent exercise bike that comes with a supportive back rest on the seat.
Next, consider how solid the frame of the exercise bike is. It needs to be well constructed with quality material such as steel, and properly reinforced so that the frame does not wobble when you get out of the saddle and do any intense efforts.
An important consideration is the resistance. The best you can get is magnetic resistance which is provided by a large magnet. Move the magnet closer to provide more resistance to the flywheel and get a harder workout. Some bikes use a fan on the spokes of the wheel. This is great if you want to keep cool while training, but is does generate the most noise.
Look for exercise bikes that use a 3 piece crank, rather than the single crank. The former are better quality and so much easier to maintain. They are also stronger so you get a much better performance from them.
If you have more than one person using the training bike you will need to look at the adjustability of the seat and the handle bars. This is important because if they don’t adjust easily it is a real disincentive to actually use the bike.
Investigate the type of seat on the bike. As you intend to spend a bit of time on the bike, this is one of the most critical things to get right. Make sure the seat is well padded and wide enough.
In order to gauge how your exercise bike training session is going most bikes have a display console that provides you with real time data. You normally get you current speed, time elapsed, average speed, calories burned and even your heart rate. This information is a great way to keep a record of progress over time and can allow you to train according to your heart rate.
Last but not least, check the warranty. As with most exercise equipment, different components will have different warranty periods. The frame is always the longest warranty period, around 2 years. The electrical items, parts and labor will all differ.
