This is a 2-day course in the centre of Oxford to get you started with User Experience Design. You'll spend two days with an experienced User Experience professional learning best practices of UX Design in a hands-on workshop and friendly environment. During the course, we will go through a series of practical exercises where you will learn the best practices of user-centred design for digital experiences, such as websites and mobile apps. You will be designing a mini-project so you get a taste of each activity (it will be fun!).   Level: Beginner/Intermediate. Perfect if you’re considering expanding your skills and learn UX Design techniques. No previous technical or design experience required.   Who is it for? This is for anyone who would like to learn UX Design. You may be a graphic designer, marketeer, developer, project manager, business analyst…   Topics covered: Introduction to User Experience Design and Design Thinking UX Design techniques A toolkit of UX techniques, tools, terminologies and their benefits. Profiling users: personas, scenarios and user needs Mapping out user journeys Rapid prototyping Tools and techniques for rapid prototyping (without having to write a line of code!) Wireframes Patterns and conventions of User Interface (UI) Design Testing your ideas with real users Best practices on planning and running user interviews and usability testing Hypothesis tests Improving the user experience Identify users key pain points Feature and improvement prioritisation Feedback and peer review You’ll have a chance to work with peers and get constructive feedback on your ideas   Outcomes: Confidence and understanding of UX techniques and benefits Ability to apply UX techniques on your next project (you’ll have handouts of templates you can use) Ability to test with real users, identify UX problems and prioritise them   Required materials: If you can, please bring your laptop. It will give you the choice of creating your rapid prototype using a digital tool. However, if you can’t bring your laptop, you can still create useful prototypes on paper. Working group It’s important that the learning, useful discussions and peer feedback continue after the course to provide you support beyond the course. For that reason, during the course, you’ll receive an invite to join a Slack channel for the group.   About the tutor Mariana has over 13 years of industry experience designing intuitive and engaging Award-winning websites, web apps and mobile apps. She holds a Masters in Interactive Media and a Bachelors in Industrial Design (Visual Communication).  Mariana is a regular visiting lecturer at several universities, including the University of the Arts London – Chelsea College where she teaches a 3-day course and the University of Reading where she teaches a 5-week module to final year students at the BA Graphic Design. For the past three years, Mariana was the Head of UX and Design at Oxford Computer Consultants, a 100-person software company, where she built and led a UX design team of eight and introduced UX and design practices and processes to the 25-year company. Prior to that Mariana worked at the agency White October for three years. She is actively involved in the Oxford community. She co-founded the popular monthly event UX Oxford, receiving speakers from Google, Mailchimp, Microsoft, BBC, The Guardian, Oxfam, Financial Times, GDS, NHS….
