Using Candles For Deeper States Of Meditation
Candles have long been used for meditation. Whether you’re new to meditation or have been meditating for a long time, candle meditation is a simple way to enter a trance like state.
Ever since fire was discovered, people have been mesmerized with an open fire. There is something about staring into a fire that makes people contemplate their lives. The fire in the candles can be hypnotizing. Here are some ways you can meditate using a candle.
Meditating with Any Type of Candle –
In any type of meditation, concentration is the ultimate factor. Concentration is slowly built up by continual practice of meditative techniques. You can discipline your mind to achieve optimal concentration for your purpose. One way to silence the mind is to relieve any expectation you might have on the meditation process. Simply relax and enjoy the process. In this type of meditation, you are allowed to use any type of candle.
Step 1: Sit in a comfortable position. Some people use the lotus position for this meditation. However, you may choose to sit on a chair. The key is not to strain yourself in an awkward position so that your body can relax.
Step 2: Place the candle at your eye level.
Step 3: Light up the candle.
Step 4: Stare into the open flame of the candle.
Step 5: Relax your body by focusing on the different parts of the body. It might be helpful if you relax your body one part at a time. Start by relaxing your toes, then your legs, until you reach your head.
Step 6: Once your body is completely relaxed, focus on the open flame and let your mind relax. At first, your mind might be full of thoughts. Just be aware of your thoughts. Don’t fight your mind. Allow any trivial thoughts to pass.
Step 7: After all the distractions have gone, keep your focus on the flame and start your deliberate contemplation.
Step 8: Let the flame guide you to a deeper understanding of yourself and your surroundings. Just let the train of thoughts flow.
Step 9: When you want to end the meditation, you can just count yourself out of the meditation. Then gently blow out the candle.
Step 10: After the meditation, immediately write and record all the revelations that you have gotten from the meditative process.
Meditation with Colored Candles –
Different colored candles are believed to have different purposes. The colors help in visualization.
White or blue candles are used when you want to achieve inner peace, purification, and protection.
Black candles are said to remove negative thoughts and eliminate confusion.
Red candles heighten passion, energy, and power.
Orange candles help people in physical healing.
Pink candles attract love, happiness, and romance.
Green candles enhance fertility, prosperity and wealth.
Yellow candles are used to strengthen the intellect and promote creativity.
Step 1: Choose a candle according to your purpose.
Step 2: Sit in a comfortable position.
Step 3: Stare into the open flame of the candle.
Step 4: Relax your body and mind.
Step 5: Visualize your goals. If you are seeking to solve a problem, visualize that your problem is being answered.
Step 6: Come out of the trance or meditation and record your insights.
Step 7: Blow out the candle.
